All knowledge is built upon the base of the one thing that I know for sure (that I exist) and the key assumption that the senses deliver the information which is sufficient to understand the world as it is meant to be understood.
Question:
Q. What do I know for sure?
A. I know I exist.
In an uncertain world, that is the only thing I claim to know for sure.
Philosophy: The purpose of philosophy is to encourage the use of intelligence to find solutions to the problems facing humankind by the use of observation and rational logic.
Philosophy is a way of thinking which is needed in order to construct a base from which to gather knowledge based upon observation and rational logic.
Philosophy has one very important thing to say to all. There is only one thing Self knows for sure - Self exist. Period. That is it. There is no proof for anything else (that I am aware of). Therefore, to establish any other knowledge we need to start with the Key Assumption: That the senses deliver the information which is sufficient to understand the world as it is meant to be understood.
Philosophy fails to be of any practical value to the general population without using an assumption based system of logic. We simply do not have the ability to know anything beyond the fact that we each exist. Therefore, we are left with no choice other than agreeing to the smallest set of assumptions which allows us to build a rational world view so that we may improve life for all.
Neither religion nor science is in the best position to serve as a base from which to construct a rational worldview upon which to make rational decisions in the best interest of each individual alive today.
