Original Sin
Each individual is born with the capability to do good and harm. Each decision made is important in forming the life time measure of the individual. Self interest is very important for the survival of the individual, carried to the extreme, self interest is the down fall of the individual and is the root source of original sin.
A little self interest is a good thing.
Advancing oneself at the expenses of others is not a good thing.
